About Xi Software
A UK company specialising in mainframe-class systems management for Unix and Linux. Incorporated 1986; Xi-Text in production since 1984, Xi-Batch since 1990.
Xi Software is a UK company which specialises in the development and worldwide marketing of mainframe-class systems management software and services for Unix and Linux. It was incorporated in 1986. Xi-Text was first released in 1984 and Xi-Batch in 1990; both are still developed, packaged and supported today. Xi-Exec, released in 2026, joins them as the third product in the range.
The company builds and supports three products - job scheduling, secure remote execution and print management for Unix and Linux - and offers the software implementation, customisation, training and general Unix and Linux consultancy that go with them.
How the company works
Xi Software keeps technical support and development close together: the engineers who answer a support call are the engineers who build the products. That is what lets the company respond quickly to new customer requirements.
Support
What it covers
Support goes to customers on a maintenance contract and covers use of the products, fault reporting, enhancement requests and general enquiries, by telephone and by email, with email treated at the same priority as a call. 24x7 is available: lines are answered around the clock, engineering attendance outside office hours is by appointment, and what a given customer receives depends on their contract. Teams are in the UK, the EU and Australasia. Support and services
Licensing
Bought once
Licences are perpetual, tiered by processor class. New major versions go to every customer on maintenance. Licensing and evaluation
What that commits us to
The network protocol is a compatibility contract with decades of customer integrations, some dating from the 1990s and still in production. When the products were hardened in 2026 against malicious network input, the protocol was deliberately left intact rather than break the integrations built against it.
The same discipline shows in how the software is built. Xi Software makes no kernel modification. That is policy, and it is what ensures co-existence with other applications, portability, and full product availability across a wide range of platforms, shipped as native packages.
