Using the Customer Portal

Signing in, registering a machine, generating licence codes, and which release a machine can take

The customer portal at https://product-management.xisl.com/login is where you register the machines you run Xi software on, generate licence codes for them, and take builds and manuals. This article covers signing in and each of those operations. For which distribution file to take once a build is offered, and what to do with it, see Downloading Xi Software from the Customer Portal.

It applies to Xi-Batch and Xi-Text together: the portal names products, machines and serial numbers, and behaves the same way for both.

What you sign in with

Signing in takes a password and a one-time code, both of them.

Enter your account reference, the email address held on your account, and your password. The portal sends a six-digit one-time code to that address; entering the code completes the sign-in.

Getting a password
Xi Support give passwords by telephone, to a person named on the account. If your account is supplied through a distributor, they can give you a login from their own portal view.

A forgotten password
Telephone Support and a new password is set while you are on the call. There is no reset link.

No code arrives
Check that the address you entered is the one held on the account. The sign-in form gives the same answer whether or not an account, an address or a password exists, so a wrong address produces no code and no message.

What the portal shows you

The page is headed My machines and lists your entitlements as serial-number panels. Select a serial heading to expand or collapse it. Active machines come first; retired and inactive ones are grouped, collapsed, at the end.

Each machine shows its platform as the portal records it - processor, operating system and version, described in plain terms, so x86_64 appears as Intel / AMD 64-bit and rockylinux9 as Rocky Linux 9 (RHEL 9 compatible) - together with its blend, its support reference and end date where one is recorded, the builds available for it, and its manuals.

Registering a machine

A serial number has one active machine, so how you register depends on whether you are adding an installation or moving one.

An additional installation
Request a new licence applies for a further licence and serial number.

The same licence on different hardware
Apply this licence to a different machine, on the serial panel that holds it.

Both open the same form: the product, a label and site of your choosing, the host name, then the architecture, operating system and OS version - each list narrowing to the platforms that follow from the one above it - and the blend. A distributor also chooses which account the machine is for.

Submit for confirmation sends the request. The machine is then pending: Xi confirms it before it becomes active, and licence codes and builds are not offered until it does.

While a request is still pending you can remove it yourself with Withdraw registration, from the pending card or from the list of requests awaiting a serial number. A machine that has been confirmed leaves through retirement.

Changing or retiring a machine

Save details edits the label, site, blend and notes of an active machine. The platform fields are fixed once the machine is confirmed.

Request retirement asks for retirement from a date you choose, and Xi confirms it. A retired machine stays visible in the collapsed group; it cannot be edited, and it is offered no codes and no builds.

Generating licence codes

On an active machine, Generate licence codes produces the codes and shows them on the page. Send these to my email sends a copy to the address on the account.

When codes are refused

The portal names which condition stopped it, on the machine concerned:

This machine has not yet been confirmed by Xi
The registration is still pending. It becomes active when Xi confirms it.

This machine is awaiting retirement
Retirement has been requested from a date and not yet confirmed.

This machine has been retired
Register a replacement against the serial with Apply this licence to a different machine.

The account is on credit hold

No licence is recorded against this serial
Contact Xi Software so that it can be established.

This serial has been withdrawn
It can no longer be used. Contact Xi Software.

Which release you can take

The release your machine is licensed for is available to you at any time, and so are its licence codes. Neither depends on a support contract.

Newer releases are part of the software support service. Where cover for a serial has ended, the portal offers the release you are licensed for and names the date the cover ended, so you know what resuming support would give you. Where no support contract has ever been recorded against a serial, the portal serves the newest release as it did before contracts were modelled.

Product manuals are offered for any product you are entitled to, whatever the state of a contract: the Administration, User, Reference and API manuals as PDFs, under each machine.

If your account is a distributor

A distributor account also lists Client systems - the machines registered under its client accounts - and can record support dates against them.

On a client's page, People at this account lists each person with their role, email address, and the date their portal login began. Give login grants one; End login ends it from a date you choose. Where the person has no password, the portal sets one and shows it once, in a message on that page. Pass it on at that point: it is not kept and not emailed.
